Your health is the priority
An ultrasound is the only way to confirm your pregnancy and receive critical information that allows you to move forward confidently.
A positive pregnancy test alone does not provide the details needed to make a confident decision. Having an ultrasound scan allows you to move forward with the facts in hand.
We provide limited ultrasounds so that you can get this information. You are our priority at Women’s Creekside Clinic.
Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?
An ultrasound scan uses sound waves to view your reproductive organs and pregnancy.
A transvaginal ultrasound is performed during the earliest weeks of pregnancy. For this scan, a transducer (a wand-like device) is inserted into the vagina. After the first weeks of pregnancy, an abdominal ultrasound is performed, with the transducer moved gently over the abdomen.
An ultrasound provides the following information to confirm your pregnancy:
- Viability: Is your pregnancy progressing, and is there a heartbeat? As many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, which may require monitoring or treatment.
- Gestational age: How far along are you in your pregnancy? This information can clarify your options. For example, the FDA has approved medical abortion through 10 weeks gestation.
- Location: Is your pregnancy located in the uterus? Some women have an ectopic pregnancy, which is when the fertilized egg implants in another location. This is a life-threatening condition that requires emergency treatment.
