What Does Adoption Entail?

Adoption can feel like a challenging and rewarding option. Placing your child in an adoptive family can cause many feelings to surface, but it can also provide the peace of mind you desire.

Learning about this option often creates many questions, but you are not alone. Women’s Creekside Clinic can answer those questions and provide clarity. We won’t pressure you to choose a specific option; you alone can decide what’s best for your situation.

You are in control

You ultimately shape your child’s life with this option. After giving birth, you can place your child in a family of your choosing. Perhaps you have specific ideas or preferences for the life you’d like your child to have. You can outline them in the adoption plan and form a relationship with the adoptive family if you choose.

Several adoption options exist, including:

  • Open adoption: You can form a relationship with the child and adoptive family. You can also decide what type of contact you’d prefer, from in-person visits to phone calls to letters.
  • Semi-open adoption: Have limited contact with the child and adoptive family. Certain identifying information, like first names, may be exchanged, but all communication occurs through the adoption agency, attorney, or another third party.
  • Closed adoption: This option keeps your identity completely private. Though not as common, it seals all identifying information, and you and the adoptive family will not know each other.

Adoption is your choice. All adoption and legal fees are covered, and you can also receive material and emotional support. Women’s Creekside Clinic will provide information and resources on this option so you can learn more.
